Always asked of me....
Why did you lose your faith?
To which I reply, I didn't lose my faith, I simply gave it up. I accepted the "fact" that God does not exist; that this almighty powerful person was made up and passed down from generation to generation as good old moral stories do.
When something can't be explained, we try to find an reason why and when our human brains can't explain it logically, we resort to the irrational. the making up of someone grandeur.
Religious people refute evolution. They don't believe that we as humans evolved from primitive mammals or that we have adapted into cultures or features that help us adjust to our environments. They don't believe that we once walked on fours or had a tail, yet, how can we explain the appendix, that was once a major organ no longer being needed? We will continue to evolve in a thousand years or more and the appendix will no longer be a part of the human organ system. The appendix was used when we were primitives to aid in the digestion of leaves.
How else can you explain skin color and features of different countries? Did you think God made them look all different? If we were all made to look like him, why don't we ALL look like him? Yet, we have evolved and adapted to our environments. The Africans with their rich melanin in their skin and the coarse hair to be able to combat the extreme sun in their lands, the Asians with their chinky eyes to adapt to the windy conditions in theirs and their skin so fair from not getting enough sun, the Europeans pale from lack of sun, etc. Yet, these "facts" are not accepted by religious people. They believe that GOD made all of us different so that we can have variety, yet some religious groups believe that Africans are descendants of Cain who was marked by God with "dark" skin to be differentiated by people for being "bad"
Religious people can choose to not believe in the facts or believe in science or evolution, but that's like saying, I don't believe in the death penalty, but it still exists. It is a fact and it is something that happens everywhere, so whether I believe it or not, it still exists and can be proven.
So here's to the Atheists that get asked, why did you
lose your faith? Reply, Why did you lose your facts?
